Freshly Pressed 2026

There’s more than one way to be an activist, and more than one way to raise one’s voice. In every fight for justice there is a story to be told. I have long been interested in addressing the plurality of the American flag, and more specifically, the hijacking of the image to systematically deconstruct democratic systems to further authoritarian aims.  The current use of the flag as a weapon and symbol of nationalistic propaganda, printed on pajamas, shoes, underwear, demonstrates, to me, that the symbol of our country has been demoted to a caricature of itself.  Therefore I created of a suite of six large format screenprinted images that explore the sublime beauty of our flag falling, fraying, twisting, and inverting to examine the layers and process that slowly erode its impact and meaning, all with the hope that the viewer will look more critically at the flag and how it is represented and reclaim ownership not as a political party but as but as a citizen.
